Message :I stumbled across this software (freeware) while reading another post and was curious if anyone had used it on their Z? I am sure that it won't do near as much as Conzult (or probably Datascan), but it's free. I thought that someone might have at least tried it out. Thanks for any input.

Yep I'm currently using it. The answer to your question depends on what you want from it. Does it allow you to do diagnostics testing? No, not at this stage anyway. Does it allow you to display sensors in gauge format? Absolutely. Does it allow you to read / clear fault codes? Absolutely.

I have just installed a PDA in my zed running ECUTalk so that I can monitor the water temp, and reset fault codes (damn you buggered knock-sensor!). If I ever want to do full diagnostics I have a laptop running ECUTalk / Datascan / Consult..

You can see info about my install here.

Personally I think ECUTalk is great. Another great plus is that the app is still in a state of development (ie that I mean the code doesn't have cobwebs on it - there are intermittent new releases). I don't personally know the developer, but have had some discussions with him via email and he's great to deal with, and is particularly receptive to constructive criticism & future requests.
